Building with care and purpose

I saw a video presentation by the Co-founder & CEO of Linear (a project management app) sharing about the idea of "quality" in things that we build or craft in this time of high technology advancement.

Quality is not measurable. It is subjective. In many ways, it can be the enemy of business. We often speak about delivering high impact results in our products, but do we actually care about the work? Do we feel any special meaning or connection with the product?

In the age of machinery, the concept of "design" shifted from craftsmanship to minimalism for the sake of mass production.

Now, in the age of AI, where we ship into the cloud multiple times per day, we start to replace the way we think and work. We start to think more like: "just ship it" or "move faster and break things", just to keep up with the business metrics.

Tech makes it easier to build, but harder to care.
